Where civilization lies close to natural spaces, you are always going to find overlap. In these liminal zones objects appear overnight that should have no place being there but they appear regardless. It is easy to overlook such relics, as they decay, rust and gather leaves, they become invisible. However whenever I come across an “artificial reef’ such as this laying in the bush I try to return as soon as possible to make a painting. A small action to make it pop, give it presence. A funny thing is whenever I do this, they seem to get taken away very quickly. Ephemeral art, destined to exist only in record.
