This installation came about on my second appearance at Moreland Sculpture Prize. Hosted by Moreland City Council in Melbourne, each participating artist was given a site along the Upfield railway line corridor. In regards to my site I only asked that it be clear. I arrived on the day of install to find that the site had indeed been cleared; right down to the dirt. There was not single blade of grass, no leaf, no tree. The was however quite a lots of garbage laying about including strips of shade cloth, remnants of pipe and bricks. Instead of trying to get a less challenging site, I decided to work with what I had in front of me. I created the shadow of a long departed native tree with the detritus I found there and made use of these surfaces to create blood like trails and contours over the basic shape.
