This was a simple straight forward design. It was intended to delineate a space for performance works presented at the Radical Fields Harvest event March 2025. A site for a dog show performance and a tractor pull with a group of fitness enthusiasts. It served its purpose. I installed the work on the day before the event allowing a brief interlude to appreciate Show Ring’s unexpected quiet presence. The location is an empty paddock covered with dry stubble. Because the design is a basic shape, nothing more than a red hoop in a simulated hover, it effortlessly brings numerous neighboring elements of this ordinary rural landscape to life. The subtle contrast of the short mown grass surrounding it, the meandering tyre marks created from vehicles including my own that have been driven back and forth. And then there is the vegetation including A single deciduous tree with leaves turning yellow creating a contrast and the natives in the background that envelop the scene. Finally there is the subtle roll of the landscape, dips and hollows, seen and unseen. All these and the clear sky above all add to its interest. Simplicity with a silent elegance.
