Animal Tracks is a painting placed directly on the ground of an undulating paddock.
It is approximately 90 meters long by 80 wide. The line work has been created using two motorbikes over several sessions during the 6 month lead up to Radical Fields offical opening in March. The design is difficult to discern in its entirety from the ground but could be interpreted as the outline of a four legged creature. Ultimately the meaning lays with the viewer when they encounter the work. Animal Tracks is an installation that has its roots within two streams of modernist art thought and practice: The first being that of land artists and their efforts to merge creative processes with locations outside of conventional gallery spaces. And the second represented by post painting strategies that seek other sites for mark making beyond canvas or vertical walls. Animal Tracks is an ongoing work with further developmental activity expected to occur over the summer months culminating with the planting of grass seed into the carved out design in early autumn 2024.
