I have been wanting to get out to a logging coupe and do this type of work for years. In one way it is another demonstration that environment painting does not have to simply exist where there is lawn. Any surface that can support paint can support an artwork. The site was in the Wombat State Forest. A large expanse of remnant bush surrounding where I live. In 2021 a massive storm devastated the area and there were a lot of downed trees. Vic Forests ( A state run logging company) in partnership with the Dja Dja Wurrung (Traditional owners whose lands cover much of the region ) conducted ‘salvage’ operations. Essentially commercial timber getting operations but only taking fallen logs. Another phrase passed around to describe this work was the term: ‘Forest Gardening’. However after the heavy machinery had been and gone, the remains looked very much like any other logging coupe. Maybe in a generation it will look like a garden but just not right now. Fail
